U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that “Iran is completely collapsing,” issuing the remark on Truth Social as Tehran continues to resist concessions in stalled talks with Washington.
“IRAN IS COMPLETELY COLLAPSING!!!” Trump wrote.
His post came after Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Saturday that Tehran had no intention of making concessions and was seeking a way out of what he described as a “no war, no peace” situation.
Pezeshkian said Iranian officials were discussing almost daily how to move beyond the current situation while preserving Iran’s principles and values and deterring another attack, according to state news agency IRNA.
He said war was not a solution, but prolonged uncertainty over whether fighting could resume was also damaging the economy and making it difficult to attract investment.
Pezeshkian said Iran needed to overcome the situation through logic while maintaining its strength.
The Iranian president also defended a memorandum signed with the U.S., saying it contained no provision requiring Tehran to capitulate or make concessions.
Iran and the U.S. signed the memorandum in June through Pakistani and Qatari mediation, ending hostilities that began in February and opening the way for negotiations toward a final agreement.
Talks have since stalled over disputes concerning implementation of the memorandum and arrangements for navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil and gas exports.
