U.S. President Donald Trump said his administration could target Iran’s electricity plants, oil wells, and Kharg Island if a peace deal is not reached soon, while stating that Washington is in “serious discussions” with Tehran to end military operations.
In a post on social media, Trump said progress had been made in talks but warned of escalation if an agreement is not finalized and if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened.
Trump said the United States could “blow up and completely obliterate” Iran’s electric generating plants, oil wells, and Kharg Island if conditions are not met.
He added that desalination plants could also be targeted.
“If for any reason a deal is not shortly reached, which it probably will be, and if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately ‘Open for Business,’ we will conclude our lovely ‘stay’ in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating” key energy infrastructure, Trump wrote.
He said these facilities had “not yet been touched” and linked the potential action to what he described as retaliation for U.S. casualties.
Trump said the U.S. is in “serious discussions” with what he described as a “new, and more reasonable, regime” to end military operations in Iran.
He stated that “great progress has been made” toward a potential agreement.
The warning came alongside demands for the Strait of Hormuz to be reopened to shipping, a key condition mentioned in his statement.
The remarks reflect ongoing negotiations as well as continued tensions tied to the broader conflict involving Iran and U.S. forces.
