The Organization of Turkic States has agreed to fast-track production of a jointly developed cube satellite for launch in 2026 and establish annual "Turkic World Space Days" as part of expanded cooperation across technology, trade and infrastructure.

The decisions came during a summit of the organization's Council of Heads of State held in Gabala, Azerbaijan, according to information obtained by Anadolu Agency.

The "12U TDT-SAT Cube Satellite," developed through the combined expertise and technological capabilities of member states under the OTS framework, will see its production timeline accelerated to meet the 2026 launch target. The project represents a significant achievement in space technology collaboration among Turkic nations.

Space cooperation and technological innovation

To raise the profile of Turkic cooperation in space sciences, the organization plans to organize Turkic World Space Days and related events during World Space Week, the International Astronautical Congress and other global platforms.

Member states also committed to deeper cooperation in artificial intelligence, with goals of boosting productivity, sustainability and regional competitiveness through coordinated innovation and capacity-building efforts. The integration of AI, green and digital technologies, and smart manufacturing systems into member states' industrial strategies will be encouraged.

The summit prioritized collaborative research and innovation by facilitating joint scientific initiatives, supporting new ventures, nurturing entrepreneurial ecosystems and enhancing knowledge exchange among academic and technological institutions across the Turkic region.

Transportation networks and tourism expansion

To improve regional connectivity, member states agreed to prioritize appropriate transport regulations and modernized logistics systems aimed at increasing efficiency, resilience and global competitiveness of transportation infrastructure.

Cooperation will intensify in trade, customs and transportation, with efforts to facilitate transit freedom and strengthen collaboration between border institutions.

Tourism cooperation will expand through broader tourism exchanges, development of cultural tourism programs and implementation of joint awareness-raising initiatives. Countries will conduct joint promotional activities in international markets through coordinated efforts, developing shared campaigns, exhibitions and cultural programs that strengthen intra-regional tourism.

A Common Museum Card is also in the works to increase access to cultural heritage sites, promote mutual understanding and strengthen the shared identity of Turkic peoples.

Under the "Turkic Green Vision," member states will promote renewable energy and clean technologies, build climate-resilient infrastructure, increase energy efficiency, advance zero-waste approaches and strengthen regional cooperation to protect and sustain natural resources and biodiversity.

Projects selected under the Hungary-based OTS Drought Prevention Institute will be implemented. Potential cooperation opportunities in critical minerals for energy security and energy transition goals will also be explored.

The organization's newly established Civil Protection Mechanism will enable joint responses to natural disasters, while agricultural innovation will be promoted through facilitation of product trade and investment to deepen cooperation among member states.
