The Turkish Consulate in Aleppo clarified that reports claiming travel agencies in the city are processing visas to Türkiye are misleading, Alakhbaria Syria reported.
In a post on the X platform on Saturday, the consulate urged the public to disregard such claims circulated by some social media accounts.
The consulate said, “You can follow any developments related to the start of visa procedures to Türkiye through announcements published on the website and social media pages of our Consulate General in Aleppo.”
The statements come amid growing interest among Syrians in traveling to Türkiye, whether for family reunification, study, work or onward travel to other countries, at a time when visa requirements imposed on Syrian nationals have remained in place since 2016.
The Turkish Consulate in Damascus is currently not issuing any type of tourist visas to Syrians inside Syria.
And any official transactions can only be submitted through official channels designated by Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Turkish Consulate General in Aleppo resumed its diplomatic activities in early January after a suspension that lasted more than a decade, following the halt of its operations in 2012 due to developments in the Syrian conflict.
The move was viewed as administrative and diplomatic in nature and did not include any announcement regarding the reopening of visa application procedures inside Syria.
Turkish authorities have repeatedly stressed that any changes related to visa policies or application mechanisms are announced exclusively through official websites and statements issued by consulates and diplomatic missions, warning against falling victim to misleading information or unlicensed intermediaries who exploit citizens’ need to travel.
