The foreign ministers of eight Muslim-majority nations, including Türkiye, issued a joint statement condemning Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir for his conduct toward participants of the Gaza-bound flotilla intercepted by Israel, calling his behavior a violation of international law and a threat to prospects for peace.
The statement, signed by the foreign ministers of the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Türkiye, Egypt, Indonesia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, described Ben-Gvir's actions toward detainees as "appalling, degrading, and unacceptable." The condemnation follows the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla, which had departed from Türkiye in an attempt to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Central to the eight nations' rebuke was Ben-Gvir's public humiliation of detainees, which the ministers characterized as "a disgraceful assault on human dignity and a clear violation of Israel's obligations under international law, including international humanitarian law, and international human rights law."
The ministers did not limit their criticism to Ben-Gvir's conduct toward the flotilla participants. They also condemned, in the strongest terms, what they described as illegal acts of incitement and violence by Ben-Gvir and other Israeli officials directed at Palestinians in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
The joint statement warned that Ben-Gvir's conduct goes beyond individual misconduct, arguing that his provocative actions fuel hatred and extremism, and directly obstruct efforts to reach a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution, the framework long recognized under international diplomatic consensus as the basis for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The eight governments called for concrete measures to hold Ben-Gvir accountable and to end what they described as a pattern of repeated provocations, incitement, and violations. They demanded that steps be taken to prevent him from "further threatening" detainees, and stressed that such conduct must be "neither tolerated nor repeated."
The statement concluded by underlining the imperative of protecting human rights and safeguarding the dignity and humane treatment of all detainees, as well as ensuring full respect for international law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
