Türkiye’s Deputy Interior Minister Munir Karaloglu called for stronger international cooperation against terrorism, drug trafficking, human trafficking, cybercrime and irregular migration during the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Interior Ministers Meeting held in Tehran.
Addressing the meeting, Karaloglu said national efforts alone are insufficient to tackle global issues such as terrorism, narcotics, human trafficking, cybercrimes, and irregular migration.
“An effective fight against terrorism, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and cybercrime is only possible through bilateral and multilateral cooperation,” he stressed.
Karaloglu noted that terrorist groups, including PKK/PYD-YPG, pose serious threats to regional security. “Whether PKK, YPG, or DHKP-C, all terrorist organizations serve as tools of third countries and malicious actors,” he said.
Highlighting Türkiye’s determination in the fight against terrorism, Karaloglu said the country’s counterterrorism efforts are vital not only for its own security but also for regional peace and stability.
He added that the vision of a “terror-free Türkiye” would have positive effects across the region. Emphasizing the value of cooperation among ECO member states, Karaloglu said, “We know that security cannot be achieved solely through the military, police, or technology. It can only be built by working together.”
Karaloglu also noted that Türkiye actively contributes to regional and international initiatives in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, describing cyber safety as an integral part of international security.
He said Türkiye is ready to strengthen cooperation with ECO countries in these areas.
Founded in 1985 by Türkiye, Iran, and Pakistan, the Economic Cooperation Organization aims to promote economic development among member states, remove trade barriers, enhance regional trade, integrate the ECO region with global markets and strengthen cultural and historical ties among its members.
