Turkish Foreign Ministry on Tuesday condemned attacks in southern Lebanon that resulted in the deaths of three Indonesian personnel serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and injuries to several others.
The ministry issued a written statement regarding the attacks targeting UNIFIL personnel in Lebanon.
The statement condemned the attacks that killed three Indonesian peacekeepers serving under UNIFIL and injured several personnel, and extended condolences to the government and people of Indonesia.
The ministry said the attacks against U.N. institutions and its peacekeeping personnel constitute a serious violation of international law and included the following statement: “The perpetrators of these attacks must be brought to justice. Israel’s occupation in Lebanon is leading to the spread of war in our region and further deepening instability. We reiterate our call to the international community to put an end to Israel’s expansionism, aggression and occupation.”
In a statement made by the Israeli army on March 2, sirens were activated in the north of the country after missiles were detected being launched from Lebanon.
The Israeli army later announced that it launched airstrikes across Lebanon, targeted the capital Beirut, and decided to expand its ground operations in Lebanon, where it carried out heavy air and naval attacks.
In its latest statement, Lebanon’s Health Ministry said that 1,247 people have been killed in Israeli attacks on the country since March 2.
Lebanon’s Disaster Management authority said the number of people forcibly displaced due to Israel’s attacks and occupation has exceeded 1.16 million, according to official records.
