Four Israeli soldiers were killed and two others wounded in a close-range clash with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, the Israeli military announced.

Hezbollah separately claimed that it carried out 40 attacks on Israeli military sites, bases and troops over the past 24 hours, including what it described as an "advanced rocket" strike on the Glilot base near Tel Aviv, which houses Israel's Unit 8200 military intelligence headquarters.

Close-range firefight; Anti-tank missile fired during evacuation

According to the Israeli army's probe, troops from the Nahal Brigade's Reconnaissance Unit (934) were operating in the western sector of southern Lebanon under the 162nd Division at approximately 6:30 p.m. Monday when they spotted a cell of Hezbollah gunmen.

The soldiers engaged the cell in close-range fire, hitting several of the operatives.

While evacuating the wounded, Hezbollah operatives fired an anti-tank missile at the troops, causing no additional casualties.

The Israeli army said it returned fire with tank shelling and airstrikes against the Hezbollah operatives in the area. One soldier was seriously wounded and a reservist was moderately hurt in the incident.

Three soldiers named, fourth name pending

The Israeli army released the names of three of the four soldiers killed, all serving with the Nahal Brigade's Reconnaissance Unit: Captain Noam Madmoni, 22, from Sderot, squad commander; Staff Sergeant Ben Cohen, 21, from Lehavim; and Staff Sergeant Maxsim Entis, 21, from Bat Yam.

The name of the fourth soldier killed is to be released later.

Hezbollah claims 40 attacks in 24 hours; Unit 8200 HQ targeted

Hezbollah said it launched 40 attacks on Israeli military sites, bases, settlements and troops over the past 24 hours, carrying out operations "in defense of Lebanon and its people," in a series of statements monitored by Türkiye's state-run Anadolu Agency.

Attacks included rocket barrages and drone strikes targeting the settlements of Metula, Dovev, Kiryat Shmona, Yir'on and Nahariya in northern Israel.

Hezbollah also said it targeted the Ghajar site, the Shomera barracks and the Mishmar HaCarmel site south of Haifa, as well as the Haifa naval base.

The group said it fired "advanced rockets" at the Glilot base near Tel Aviv, which houses Israel's Unit 8200 military intelligence headquarters. Other attacks targeted the Filon base south of Rosh Pinna, military infrastructure in the Krayot area north of Haifa and Israeli troop gatherings near Naqoura and along the Lebanese border.

In southern Lebanon, Hezbollah said it targeted Israeli troop and vehicle concentrations in several border towns, including Adaisseh, Deir Siryan, Ainata and Bayyada, reporting direct hits. The group also claimed to have destroyed several Israeli Merkava tanks and struck Israeli forces inside homes in the border towns of Beit Lif and Ainata.

Israel has pounded Lebanon with airstrikes and launched a ground offensive in southern Lebanon since a cross-border Hezbollah attack on March 2.

Lebanese authorities have reported at least 1,247 people killed and 3,690 injured in Israeli attacks.

The fighting in Lebanon comes amid the broader U.S.-Israeli offensive against Iran that has killed more than 1,340 people since Feb. 28.
