Turkish Presidential Chief Adviser on Foreign Policy and Security Akif Cagatay Kilic said Türkiye is among the countries working to bring the United States and Iran together for negotiations, expressing hope that the talks will produce results.

Kilic made the remarks in an interview with Becky Anderson on CNN International.

He said efforts to facilitate talks are ongoing, noting that Pakistan, Türkiye, Egypt and several Gulf countries are engaged in mediation between Washington and Tehran.

“Our hope is that all parties will continue to take part in the efforts put forward by our Pakistani friends. Because as far as we know, the first round conducted under these conditions was successful. Therefore, we hope this continues,” Kilic said.

He added that multiple issues remain to be addressed in negotiations and expressed hope they would be handled in a way that delivers concrete outcomes.

Kilic said Türkiye remains optimistic, recalling that a ceasefire was achieved despite initial expectations that it would not be possible.

Commenting on the visit of NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte to Ankara, Kilic said Rutte is expected to meet President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, with discussions to include preparations for the NATO summit scheduled for July in Ankara.

Call for cooperation, shared use of resources

Kilic stressed the importance of cooperation and connectivity in the region, highlighting the strategic role of natural resources.

“We believe that the natural resources in our region should be shared by all humanity. However, of course, the region we live in and the people who provide these resources to the world—whether natural gas, oil or other resources—must be taken into account in this process,” he said.

He emphasized that increased connectivity, including ease of travel similar to the European Union model, could boost prosperity and mutual understanding.

“To achieve this, we need connectivity,” Kilic said, adding that Türkiye supports expanding cooperation based on each country’s strengths.

Türkiye seeks deeper regional cooperation

Responding to a question about regional diplomacy, Kilic said Türkiye is working to deepen cooperation with neighboring countries and allies.

He noted that Pakistan has long been an ally, while ties with Saudi Arabia and other regional partners are also strengthening.

Kilic pointed to Türkiye’s advances in industry, including the defense sector, as a basis for expanding cooperation.

“Therefore, it is quite natural for us to cooperate at different levels in various areas of industrial production, including the defense industry,” he said.

He added that expanding partnerships and areas of cooperation is a positive development, stressing that such efforts build on existing frameworks rather than replacing them.
