Türkiye-Qatar Joint Economic Commission meeting held in Istanbul

The Türkiye-Qatar Joint Economic Commission (JEC) meeting took place at the Dolmabahce Office in Istanbul between the Turkish Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Simsek, Qatari Finance Minister Ali Bin Ahmed al-Kuwari on Thursday.

Key cooperation areasdiscussed included boosting mutual investments, expanding collaboration in strategic sectors, financing large projects and green growth, strengthening banking and financial ties, and exploring trade opportunities. "We invite Qatari investors to seize the attractive incentives in various sectors," said Simsek.

Minister Simsek emphasized Türkiye's strengths, stating, “Türkiye offers great opportunities with its diverse production structure, advanced infrastructure, growing R&D ecosystem, and vast talent pool.” He also highlighted Türkiye and Qatar’s deep political ties and their commitment to enhancing economic cooperation, especially following Qatar's strong support after the 2023 earthquake in southeastern Türkiye.

Minister Kuwari highlighted the strong economic partnershipbetween Qatar and Türkiye, emphasizing mutual respect and a shared vision for prosperity and development. He noted that economic ties, particularly in the energy sector with LNG agreements, have contributed significantly to both nations' economic diversification. "Our goal is to strengthen this foundation and expand collaboration in technology, defense, and tourism," Kuwari stated.

Both ministers signed a protocol to further deepen bilateral cooperation. Kuwari also expressed appreciation for ongoing negotiations toward a free trade agreement between Türkiye and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which aims to enhance trade and investment flows.
