Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Thursday that Ankara will actively monitor the implementation of the newly agreed Gaza ceasefire through a multinational task force that includes representatives from the United States, Egypt, and Qatar, following high-level talks hosted by France on the region’s post-war reconstruction and humanitarian coordination.

Speaking after the meeting, which brought together foreign ministers from Türkiye, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and the European Union, Fidan stressed Ankara's constructive role in peace efforts.

Fidan flags Netanyahu as unreliable, vows optimism

Fidan said the initial stage focuses on four main objectives: achieving a complete ceasefire, securing the release of hostages and detainees, ensuring Israeli troop withdrawal to agreed lines, and delivering uninterrupted humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Expressing confidence that the collaborative spirit emerging from the initiative could serve as a model for resolving other regional disputes, Fidan said, "Türkiye has demonstrated an extraordinary effort," adding that a "new spirit of cooperation" has emerged, which could shape broader conflict-resolution efforts across the region.

He cautioned, however, that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could not be relied upon, noting that while some challenges are expected, they would not cause Türkiye to lose optimism.

France praises Türkiye, Egypt, and Qatar for mediation

French President Emmanuel Macron, who opened the Paris meeting alongside Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, said the talks were in line with Washington’s diplomatic efforts on Gaza. He noted that France was ready to participate in the "Gaza Stability Force," an international framework to support the truce and humanitarian operations.

Macron also said Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank ran counter to the ceasefire roadmap proposed by the U.S., stressing that aid should enter Gaza through all possible border crossings.

French Foreign Minister Barrot praised Türkiye, Egypt, and Qatar for their "intensive efforts" in reaching the truce, describing the agreement as "a major step for peace and security in the region."

He said the collective mission was now to ensure the implementation of the plan "proposed under President Trump’s initiative," adding that "no effort should be spared to achieve lasting peace between Israel and Palestine."
