Türkiye will assist Syria in producing official documents, including passports, identity cards and driver’s licenses, following a formal request from Syria's new administration.

The request was made as part of broader normalization efforts between the two countries. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reportedly instructed relevant ministries to prepare for the initiative.

"Türkiye will adopt a system similar to its own chip-based passport, ID, and driver's license production for Syrian citizens," officials said.

The technical preparations have already begun, aiming to ensure the documents meet international security and identification standards.

Visa regulations expected after stability restored

Once stability is reestablished in Syria, Türkiye plans to implement a visa system for border crossings between the two countries. The policy aims to regulate travel and enhance security cooperation.

Authorities are also considering long-term solutions for Syrians currently under temporary protection in Türkiye.

"After temporary protection status is lifted, options such as residence permits, work permits, or short-term visas are being evaluated for those who wish to remain in Türkiye," officials noted.
