The Turkish Foreign Ministry said late Friday that Hamas' response to U.S. President Donald Trump's Gaza ceasefire plan will enable the establishment of a ceasefire and steps toward lasting peace.
The ministry issued a written statement regarding Hamas' response to the ceasefire plan.
"We consider that the response delivered today (Oct. 3) by Hamas to the plan announced by US President Trump, provides an opportunity for the immediate establishment of a ceasefire in Gaza, uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to the region, and paves the way for taking steps toward the attainment of a lasting peace," the ministry said.
The statement called on Israel to immediately halt its attacks on the people of Gaza.
"Israel must immediately cease its attacks against the people of Gaza. We call on the parties to commence without delay the negotiations that will secure a ceasefire and to implement the two-state solution, which enjoys the support of the international community," the ministry said.
The statement later emphasized that Türkiye will continue to support negotiations and make constructive contributions.
Hamas accepted the prisoner exchange portion of Trump's Gaza plan and said some other provisions need to be negotiated.
