Two Israeli Air Force soldiers have been detained on suspicion of spying for Iran, according to media reports in Israel.
A report by i24News, citing Israel’s military police, said the two suspects have been held in custody for about a month as part of an espionage investigation within the air force.
The report said there are strong suspicions that Iran’s intelligence services had established contact with the soldiers.
The two are suspected of abusing their positions to access sensitive information related to strategic bases and high-ranking Israeli officials, it added.
The investigation could extend beyond the two suspects and may point to a broader network, the report said, noting that arrests had previously been made within units responsible for Israel’s air defense systems as part of the probe.
It added that indictments are expected to be prepared against the two soldiers on charges of aiding the enemy during wartime.
In a separate case, Israeli police said on March 20 that a reservist had been detained on suspicion of leaking classified information about the Iron Dome air defense system to Iranian intelligence.
In recent months, multiple individuals in Israel have been detained and indicted on allegations of spying for Iran.
