The United Arab Emirates has halted all trade, commercial exchange, and financial transactions with Iran "until further notice," a senior Emirati official said, citing regional escalations that threaten international peace and security.

Afra Al Hameli, director of the Strategic Communications Department at the UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), announced the suspension in a statement, while pushing back on what she described as allegations about the state of economic relations between the two countries.

Al Hameli rejected all allegations regarding the status of the economic relationship between the UAE and Iran, according to the ministry's statement. She reaffirmed that the UAE remains committed to dialogue, cooperation, and regional integration, describing them as essential tools for advancing peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.

Trade and financial transactions suspended

Despite that stated commitment to engagement, Al Hameli said the current halt was necessary "in light of regional escalations that undermine regional and international peace and security." She said all trade, commercial exchanges, and financial transactions with Iran have been suspended until further notice, without specifying a timeline for resuming them or detailing the scale of the economic relationship affected.

Al Hameli also emphasized that the UAE remains firmly committed to safeguarding the integrity of the international financial system, saying the country's actions align with international law and the highest global standards.

The statement did not elaborate on which regional developments prompted the decision, nor did it specify which sectors of trade or which types of financial transactions are covered by the suspension.
