Britain said Tuesday it will provide £100 million ($135 million) to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses before winter, including Patriot missiles, air-defense interceptors, artillery ammunition and drones.
The Defense Ministry said the equipment will be supplied through a NATO program supporting Kyiv and delivered before winter.
The package is intended to help Ukraine protect critical national infrastructure, civilians and its armed forces from Russian attacks.
Ukraine relies heavily on advanced air-defense systems, particularly U.S. Patriot interceptors, to defend against Russian ballistic missiles.
Kyiv has reported shortages of Patriot interceptors since the U.S. and Israel began their war with Iran in February, diverting supplies.
Britain has been one of Ukraine’s major supporters since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham visited Ukraine last month on his first foreign trip since taking office in late July.
Britain also recently agreed to provide Ukraine with information on components for the SCALP long-range missile, the French-produced version of the U.K.’s Storm Shadow, allowing Kyiv to establish local assembly lines.
New British Defense Minister Wes Streeting is set to co-chair his first meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group on Tuesday.
The group brings together 50 countries providing military equipment to Ukraine.
“Both the Prime Minister and I heard loud and clear on our first visits to Kyiv the importance of supporting Ukraine through this winter, as Putin prepares to use winter as a weapon by continuing barbaric attacks against civilian and energy targets,” Streeting said.
