More than 900 physical barriers across the occupied West Bank are delaying and restricting humanitarian operations, the United Nations said, warning that checkpoints, gates, roadblocks and other restrictions are preventing aid from reaching people in need.

Daniela Gross De Almeida, deputy spokesperson for the U.N. secretary-general, said humanitarian partners had raised concerns over the network of restrictions during a daily briefing at U.N. headquarters in New York.

"Our humanitarian partners warn that a network of more than 900 physical obstacles, including checkpoints, gates, roadblocks and other restrictions, is delaying and restricting aid operations," Almeida said.

She said actions by the Israeli military and Israeli illegal settlers in the West Bank were obstructing humanitarian access and leaving people in need without assistance.

Aid workers struggle to reach families in Qusra

Almeida said humanitarian and municipal workers were trying to reach three Palestinian families in the village of Qusra, near Nablus.

The families have been trapped since Tuesday, Aug. 11, after a illegal settler outpost was established next to their homes and access restrictions in the area were tightened, she said.

"Our partners, together with municipal workers, are trying to deliver food, water, baby formula, medicine and hygiene supplies to those trapped inside, but these attempts have so far been unsuccessful," Almeida said.

She added that measures imposed by Israeli forces had rendered efforts to protect Palestinians ineffective.
