United States Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee said Thursday that the U.S. Embassy had intervened with Israeli authorities over the harassment of a Palestinian family in the West Bank village of Qusra, rejecting claims that U.S. officials had failed to act and describing those responsible as "Israeli terrorists."
"This is another lie," Huckabee wrote on X, responding to a claim concerning the U.S. response to the incident.
"The embassy has been VERY involved," he added.
"The actions of those doing this to this family’s home are criminal," Huckabee said.
"The WH hasn’t 'intervened' because we have kept DC apprised of the situation already," he added, referring to the White House.
Huckabee’s comments came after a senior White House official told KAN News that the United States believes Israel is not doing enough to prevent West Bank settler violence.
The Israeli army raided Qusra, south of Nablus in the northern occupied West Bank, on Thursday and imposed a curfew amid mounting tensions as Israeli settlers continued to besiege three Palestinian families for a fourth consecutive day.
Eyewitnesses told the Turkish news agency Anadolu that a large Israeli military force entered the town, with infantry troops and dozens of military vehicles deployed throughout its streets.
The forces imposed a curfew and ordered shops to close, the witnesses said.
Tensions have escalated in Qusra since Israeli settlers erected a tent and temporary structures among Palestinian homes in the Ras al-Ain area on the outskirts of the town.
The settlers have surrounded three homes since Sunday, preventing residents from entering or leaving and barring visitors from reaching them.
