U.S. forces launched a second wave of military strikes against Iran at 3 p.m. Eastern time Wednesday, targeting military capabilities used to threaten vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. Central Command said.

“At 3 p.m. ET, U.S. forces launched operations for a second wave of strikes today against Iran,” CENTCOM said in a statement posted on the U.S.-based social media platform X.

“The strikes are targeting Iranian military capabilities used to threaten vessels freely transiting through the Strait of Hormuz, an international waterway vital to global commerce,” the command added.

CENTCOM said the U.S. military was holding Iran “accountable” at the direction of President Donald Trump.

Explosions reported in Ahvaz and Chabahar

Iran’s Mehr News Agency reported that explosions were heard in Ahvaz, a city near the country’s border with Iraq.

Ahvaz has been repeatedly targeted by U.S. forces since hostilities resumed this month.

Mehr also reported three explosions in the southeastern Iranian city of Chabahar.

Iranian media had earlier reported that U.S. missiles struck a naval watchtower in Chabahar.

The watchtower was described as a civilian facility used for maritime security and search-and-rescue operations for fishermen.

No further details about the impact of the explosions were immediately provided.

Trump warns Iran to ‘behave’

Trump issued a new warning to Iran earlier Wednesday, saying Tehran understood Washington’s position and cautioning that it “better behave” amid escalating tensions between the two countries.

The U.S. and Iran have exchanged attacks in recent days despite a Pakistan-mediated memorandum of understanding intended to end the war.

The conflict was triggered by U.S.-Israeli attacks against Tehran in February.

CENTCOM cites threats in Strait of Hormuz

CENTCOM said the latest strikes were aimed at Iranian military capabilities that Washington said were being used to threaten vessels freely transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

The command described the strait as an international waterway vital to global commerce and said the second wave of operations was carried out under Trump’s direction.
