Seven Iranian troops were killed after U.S. missile strikes hit an army barracks in the southeastern city of Bampur early Wednesday.

Iranian officials said more than 30 civilians have died in recent attacks across the country's south.

According to a statement from the Iranian Army's Ground Forces carried out by the state-run IRNA agency, 13 missiles struck the barracks, targeting accommodation facilities, a guest house, and guard posts in "an attempt to inflict heavy casualties."

Iran vows retaliation

Despite the scale of the attack, the army said passive defense measures helped limit the death toll, the Iranian army said. The seven troops killed were members of the 388th Iranshahr Brigade, while several others were wounded and are receiving medical treatment.

The army condemned the "cowardly attack" on military accommodation facilities and vowed retaliation.

"Revenge for the pure blood of the martyrs of this crime is certain and imminent, and the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran, with the help of God and the support of the other armed forces, will give a decisive response to this aggressive action of the American enemy," it said.

Civilian toll tops 30

Separately, government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani said more than 30 civilians have been killed in recent attacks on southern Iran.

"In the recent attacks on the southern part of the country, more than 30 civilians lost their lives," Mohajerani wrote in a post on X, without providing further details.

The latest strikes come as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to escalate over the Strait of Hormuz, with both sides exchanging attacks despite a Pakistan-mediated Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding aimed at ending the conflict.
