Shakhtar Donetsk head coach Arda Turan has played down speculation linking him with a future managerial role at Galatasaray, underlining his current commitment to the Ukrainian side while expressing deep respect for his former club.
Speaking after Shakhtar’s elimination from the UEFA Conference League semi-finals against Crystal Palace, Turan addressed questions surrounding the ongoing rumors.
Turan described the topic as one he could not freely comment on, emphasizing his personal connection to Galatasaray while making it clear that a return is not under consideration.
He noted that the Istanbul club currently has a highly successful and historic coach in charge, adding that both he and those close to him continue to support that leadership.
In his remarks, Turan stated: “This is not something I can speak about comfortably. Because I am a son of Galatasaray. There is currently a great coach there, one who has made history. We always support him, and such a thought has never crossed our minds.”
Shifting focus to his current role, Turan highlighted that Shakhtar Donetsk offered him a major opportunity following his time at Eyupspor, a club in Türkiye’s football system.
He stressed that both his mind and heart remain fully dedicated to his present team.
He pointed out that he respects the club and those who entrusted him with the managerial position, indicating that professional paths can evolve unpredictably, yet reaffirming that all decisions at Shakhtar are made collectively and with mutual respect.
Turan further underlined his emotional connection to Shakhtar, stating that he has strong ambitions for the club’s future and does not intend to turn his back on the opportunity he has been given.
“I love this club, I have big dreams about its future. If I have been given this chance, I will never turn my back on it throughout my life,” he said, reinforcing his long-term commitment despite ongoing speculation.
