Arsenal is reportedly ready to put together the biggest contract offer in the club's history in an attempt to sign Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior.
According to a report by The Telegraph, the Premier League side is prepared to offer the 26-year-old Brazilian more than £400,000 per week, which would amount to around £20 million ($26.8 million) annually.
Should the move go through, Vinicius would become the highest-paid player in Arsenal's history.
The London club is reportedly willing to stretch its wage structure to bring in Vinicius, who remains one of the most prominent attacking players at Real Madrid.
Arsenal's proposed salary package would also underline the scale of the club's effort to pull off the transfer, although no agreement has yet been reached.
The report said the Brazilian would sign the most lucrative contract Arsenal have ever handed out if he accepts the offer and the transfer is completed.
Vinicius' future in the Spanish capital remains uncertain as contract extension talks with Real Madrid have not yet produced a final agreement.
Jose Mourinho, who has returned as Real Madrid head coach, reportedly does not want to lose the winger and sees him as an important part of his squad planning.
The Spanish club is therefore expected to try to hold on to the player as discussions over his future continue.
Vinicius made 53 appearances across all competitions for Real Madrid last season, scoring 22 goals and setting up 14 more.
His total of 36 direct goal contributions further strengthened his position as a key member of the Spanish side and has helped keep interest in his future high.
