A 16-year-old player from English club Arsenal F.C. has entered the record books after scoring in England’s top football division, the Premier League. Max Dowman became the youngest player ever to score in the competition, reaching the milestone during Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Everton F.C.
The teenage right winger found the net in stoppage time, sealing the win for the league leaders and setting a new record in the process.
Arsenal wrapped up a 2-0 home win over Everton with two late strikes that came in the final minutes of the match. The breakthrough arrived in the 89th minute when Viktor Gyokeres opened the scoring.
As the match moved into stoppage time, Dowman stepped up to add a second goal in the 90+7th minute. His strike not only confirmed the victory but also marked a historic moment for the young forward, who scored at just 16 years and 73 days of age.
Dowman’s goal made him the youngest scorer in Premier League history, breaking a long-standing record previously held by James Vaughan.
Vaughan had set the record in 2005 while playing for Everton, when he scored at the age of 16 years and 270 days. Dowman’s achievement, therefore, lowers the age mark significantly and places the Arsenal academy graduate among the league’s most notable teenage talents.
The victory also strengthened Arsenal’s position at the top of the Premier League standings.
The London club moved up to 70 points following the win over Everton.
