Australia has qualified for the FIFA World Cup knockout stage following a 0–0 draw with Paraguay in its final Group D match at Levi’s Stadium.
The result was sufficient for Australia to finish second in the group, booking its place in the Round of 32 after a disciplined defensive performance in a tightly contested encounter.
Australia had opened its group campaign with a victory over Türkiye before suffering a defeat to the United States in its second fixture. However, the draw against Paraguay ensured the team accumulated enough points to progress beyond the group stage.
This marks only the third time in seven World Cup appearances that Australia has advanced past the group phase.
Paraguay remains in contention for qualification as one of the best third-placed teams, with its fate dependent on results elsewhere.
The United States finished top of Group D, having already secured qualification before the final round of group fixtures.
