One of Türkiye’s leading boxing figures, Avni Yildirim, is set to return to the ring on Thursday evening. Yildirim will face Colombian opponent John Caicedo for the WBC International Championship belt.
The fight will take place at the Sinan Erdem Sports Complex as the main event of the “Mega Fight Arena 3” event. Thousands of fans are expected to watch live and on screens nationwide.
The match is expected to start between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. (GMT+3).
Born in Sivas on Aug. 5, 1991, Avni Yildirim began boxing young, encouraged by his local grocer. He trained with Besiktas Gymnastics Club and later with Fenerbahce Sports Club as an amateur.
He earned a bronze medal at the 2013 Mediterranean Games before turning professional.
In his career, Yildirim has fought 29 times, winning 24 and losing five. He challenged for the IBO super middleweight title in 2017 and the WBC super middleweight belt in 2019. He also competed for the WBA (Super), WBC, and The Ring titles in 2021.
After a long break, Yildirim returns to add another championship to his record.
