Besiktas beats Baskonia 92-84 as Anadolu Efes suffer heavy EuroLeague defeat

Istanbul's Besiktas secured a 92-84 victory over Spain's Baskonia on Friday, while fellow Turkish side Anadolu Efes suffered an 89-66 defeat against defending champions Olympiacos in the fourth round of the EuroLeague, Europe's leading club basketball competition.

The contrasting results brought Besiktas level at two wins and two losses, while Anadolu Efes dropped to a 1-3 record after four games.

Besiktas pulls away in final quarter to overcome Baskonia

Besiktas got off to a strong start in Spain, building a 28-20 advantage in the opening quarter before Baskonia fought back with eight unanswered points early in the second period.

The Spanish hosts edged ahead 51-49 at halftime, but Besiktas regained control after the break and entered the final quarter with a narrow 73-71 lead.

The Turkish side then put together a decisive 10-2 run to stretch its advantage to 83-73, holding off Baskonia's attempts to recover and sealing an eight-point victory.

Scottie Wilbekin led Besiktas with a game-high 24 points, while Devon Dotson and Wenyen Gabriel added 14 each.

Chris Duarte was Baskonia's leading scorer with 23 points, although his contribution was not enough to prevent the Spanish side from slipping to its third defeat in four games.

Olympiacos takes control after halftime to defeat Anadolu Efes

In Greece, Olympiacos extended its strong start to the EuroLeague season with an 89-66 home victory over Anadolu Efes, improving to three wins and one loss.

The defending champions opened up a 26-16 lead in the first quarter, but Efes responded with a 9-2 run in the second to cut the deficit to three points before trailing 35-31 at halftime.

Olympiacos pulled away after the break, stretching its lead to 18 points midway through the third quarter. Although Efes briefly reduced the gap to nine, the Greek side entered the final period ahead 62-49 and continued to build on its advantage.

Jean Montero led Olympiacos with 16 points, supported by Tyrique Jones with 11, while Cameron Payne scored a team-high 12 points for Anadolu Efes and P.J. Dozier added 11.

The result handed Efes its third defeat of the campaign, leaving the Istanbul club with just one victory through four rounds.
