Besiktas GAIN will host Italian side Dolomiti Energia on Wednesday in a single-elimination BKT EuroCup quarterfinal, with a place in the semifinals on the line.
The matchup, set to tip off at 8:00 p.m. local time, March 18, in Istanbul, will be decided over one game, meaning the winner moves on while the loser exits the competition. This knockout format raises the intensity, as there is no second chance to recover from mistakes.
Besiktas secured its quarterfinal spot directly after topping Group B in the regular season, finishing with a strong record of 13 wins and 5 losses. By contrast, Dolomiti Energia advanced through an additional playoff round after placing fifth in the same group.
The Italian team booked its place in this stage by edging past Umana Reyer with a 94-90 victory, a result that underlined its ability to handle pressure in close games.
While Besiktas entered the quarterfinals with rest and preparation time, Dolomiti Energia arrives with recent knockout experience.
The two sides split their meetings in the regular season, each winning at home. Besiktas came out on top in Istanbul with a 97-83 result, while Dolomiti Energia responded in Italy with an 87-74 victory.
The winner of this quarterfinal will go on to face either Bahcesehir Koleji or U-BT Cluj Napoca of Romania in the semifinals, adding further significance to Wednesday’s clash.
