Besiktas and Portuguese club Benfica have reached a full agreement for the transfer of Turkish international Orkun Kokcu, renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported Friday.
The 24-year-old creative midfielder had been linked with Besiktas for several weeks. Romano announced on X that both clubs and the player have reached a verbal agreement.
According to the deal, Besiktas will initially sign Kokcu on loan with a mandatory purchase clause. Besiktas will pay a fixed fee of €25 million (over $29 million) to acquire Kokcu permanently at the end of the season.
An additional €5 million (nearly $6 million) in performance-related bonuses could increase the total package to €30 million ($35 million).
Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu also confirmed the structure of the deal on X, stating that it consists of a €5 million loan and an obligation to buy the player for €25 million euros at the end of next season.
Orkun Kokcu began his professional career at Feyenoord in the Netherlands. After a standout spell that saw him become club captain, he transferred to Benfica in the summer of 2023 for close to €30 million ($35 million).
Last season, Kokcu played 55 matches in all competitions for Benfica, scoring 12 goals and providing 11 assists.
He has earned 41 caps for the Turkish national team and is known for his versatility, being able to operate both in central midfield and on the wings.
