Besiktas striker Dusan Vlahovic credited teammate Orkun Kokcu for his record-breaking scoring streak after finding the net in his side's 2-1 victory over Kocaelispor in the Turkish Super Lig.
The Serbian forward scored Besiktas' second goal in the seventh round of Türkiye's top-flight football league, becoming the first player since the 2000-2001 season to score in each of his first four matches in the starting lineup for the Istanbul club.
However, rather than celebrating the individual milestone, Vlahovic insisted that Kokcu deserved recognition for helping him maintain his scoring form.
"Put Orkun's name on the record. That record belongs to Orkun, not me," Vlahovic said after the match.
Speaking about his achievement, Vlahovic emphasized the understanding he has developed with Kokcu on the pitch, explaining that both players regularly help each other create scoring opportunities.
"I am very grateful to Orkun. I help him score goals, and he helps me. I do my best, but the record belongs to Orkun!" he said.
The Serbian striker's latest goal extended his scoring run to four consecutive starts, marking a milestone no Besiktas player had achieved in 25 years.
Reflecting on the 2-1 victory, Vlahovic acknowledged that Besiktas faced a difficult challenge against a Kocaelispor side that had conceded only four goals since the beginning of the season.
He praised the opposition's defensive organization and said his team was pleased to come away with the victory.
"It was a very difficult match. We played against a team that defends well and had conceded only four goals since the start of the season. We are happy to have won," Vlahovic said.
The striker added that Besiktas needed to continue taking things step by step as the season progressed.
