Galatasaray President Dursun Ozbek has reportedly placed Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes at the top of the club’s plans for a new No. 10, a creative attacking midfield role, and is prepared to wait until the final stages of the transfer period.
Fernandes’ situation at Manchester United remains uncertain as discussions surrounding a possible new contract have yet to produce a clear outcome.
According to Milliyet, Galatasaray are closely following these developments before making their next move.
Ozbek reportedly sees the 31-year-old Portugal international as his preferred candidate and has called on the club to hold off before turning to other options.
“If we are going to sign someone, it should be the best. Let us wait for Bruno Fernandes. I want this transfer very much. He would suit Galatasaray very well,” Ozbek was quoted as saying.
Although Fernandes remains the main target, Galatasaray is also drawing up alternative plans in case the proposed move falls through.
The Istanbul club reportedly does not intend to spend unusually large amounts on other positions while the possibility of signing Fernandes remains open.
Galatasaray are therefore expected to continue pursuing loan deals that include an option to buy the player permanently at a later date. However, the club could change this approach should it become clear that Fernandes will not join.
Fernandes made 37 appearances for Manchester United last season, scoring nine goals and setting up a further 22.
