Jhon Duran's 95th-minute goal rescued a 1-1 draw for Fenerbahce against league leaders Galatasaray on Sunday, preserving the hosts' unbeaten record while allowing their rivals to maintain top spot in the Super Lig title race.

The Colombian striker's dramatic late intervention at Ulker Stadyumu cancelled out Leroy Sane's 27th-minute opener, ensuring the one-point gap between the fierce rivals remained unchanged after one of Turkish football's most anticipated fixtures of the season.

Galatasaray retains first place with 33 points from 14 matches, while Fenerbahce sits second on 32 points. The result extended the hosts' unbeaten streak to 12 matches across all competitions, though they failed to seize the opportunity to leapfrog their archrivals into the league lead.

The match, overseen by referee Yasin Kol, began at 8:00 PM following pre-game tensions that saw players from both sides clash during warmups, requiring security intervention.

Sane breaks deadlock before halftime

The German winger put Galatasaray ahead midway through the first half, capitalizing on his team's efficiency to give the visitors a slender advantage heading into the interval.

Despite controlling 56.2 percent of possession and attempting 17 shots compared to Galatasaray's six, Fenerbahce struggled to convert territorial dominance into clear scoring opportunities. Both goalkeepers registered just one save apiece, with each side managing only two shots on target throughout the contest.

Discipline became a factor as the match wore on, with Fenerbahce collecting three yellow cards and Galatasaray receiving four. Galatasaray goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir was booked in the 78th minute, while striker Victor Osimhen received a caution in the 71st minute. Fenerbahce goalkeeper Ederson saw yellow in the 66th minute.

Late substitutions prove decisive

Both managers made strategic changes in pursuit of a result. Fenerbahce introduced Duran and Talisca in the 63rd minute, a double substitution that would ultimately prove crucial. Manager Domenico Tedesco added Fred and Oguz Aydin in the 79th minute before bringing on Munir Mercan in the 89th minute.

Galatasaray boss Okan Buruk responded by introducing Mauro Icardi in the 89th minute, replacing one attacking option with another. The Argentine striker's arrival preceded Fenerbahce's equalizer by mere minutes. Yunus Akgun and Berkan Kutlu entered the match in stoppage time, with Akgun coming on in the 94th minute and Kutlu in the 97th minute, though neither could influence the outcome.

Fenerbahce's persistence in attack paid dividends deep into second-half stoppage time when Duran found the net, sparking jubilant scenes among the home supporters and ensuring his team avoided their first defeat of the league campaign.

Title race remains tight at summit

The draw maintains the status quo in what has developed into Turkish football's closest title race in recent years. Fenerbahce's afternoon of possession and territorial control — they earned seven corner kicks to Galatasaray's three — ultimately yielded just one point, though avoiding defeat keeps their championship aspirations intact.

The result continues Fenerbahce's domestic unbeaten run, which now spans their last six league fixtures with five victories and one draw. For Galatasaray, the late concession represents only their second dropped points in recent weeks but preserves their position atop the table.

Nelson Semedo and Jayden Oosterwolde received yellow cards for the hosts in the 36th and 54th minutes respectively, while Galatasaray's Mario Lemina was cautioned in the 40th minute and Baris Alper Yilmaz in the 63rd minute.

Both teams deployed attacking formations, with Fenerbahce utilizing a 4-1-4-1 setup featuring En Nesyri as the lone striker before Duran's introduction, while Galatasaray employed a 4-2-3-1 system with Osimhen leading the line until Icardi's late substitution.
