Fenerbahce Beko men’s basketball team captain Melih Mahmutoglu had his driver’s license suspended after being caught driving under the influence during a traffic inspection in Istanbul’s Besiktas district.
According to reports, the incident took place on Oct. 23 in the Etiler neighborhood, where police stopped Mahmutoglu’s vehicle as part of routine traffic checks.
The test revealed a blood alcohol level of 1.15 % (promille), exceeding the legal limit in Türkiye. Following the result, Mahmutoglu was taken to the local police station for standard procedures. His driver’s license was subsequently confiscated, and his vehicle was temporarily banned from traffic under the relevant article of the Road Traffic Law.
Born on May 12, 1990, in Istanbul, Melih Mahmutoglu is a prominent Turkish basketball player known for his role as a shooting guard. Standing 1.91 meters tall, he began his basketball journey in the youth system of Bogazici University before moving to Efes Pilsen’s youth team in 1999.
He started his professional career with Pertevniyal in 2006 and later played for Darussafaka, Galatasaray, and Antalya Buyuksehir Belediyesi. His breakthrough came with impressive performances that earned him recognition across Türkiye’s basketball scene.
Mahmutoglu joined Fenerbahce Ulker in the 2013–2014 season, where he contributed to multiple national titles, including the Turkish Basketball League and Presidential Cup victories. Today, he continues to serve as the captain of Fenerbahce Beko, one of Türkiye’s leading basketball clubs competing in the EuroLeague.
