Fenerbahce will look to end its winless record against Aston Villa when it travels to England for their UEFA Champions League Matchday 2 encounter, marking the Turkish club's 24th competitive meeting with English opposition.

The Istanbul side has faced English clubs 23 times in European competitions, picking up six wins and four draws while suffering 13 defeats. During those encounters, Fenerbahce scored 18 goals and conceded 42.

Its record against Aston Villa is particularly challenging, as the English club has won all three previous meetings without conceding a goal.

Aston Villa maintains perfect record against Fenerbahce

The two clubs first crossed paths in the 1977-78 UEFA Cup, when Aston Villa secured a 4-0 home victory before winning the return leg 2-0 in Istanbul.

They met again last season in the UEFA Europa League, with Aston Villa coming away with a 1-0 victory in Kadikoy, Fenerbahce's home district on Istanbul's Asian side.

Wednesday's Champions League encounter will therefore be their fourth meeting, with Fenerbahce seeking both its first goal and first victory against the English side.

Aston Villa has also faced other Turkish clubs, recording five victories, one draw and one defeat across seven matches against teams from Türkiye.

Its previous opponents include Besiktas, whom it beat 3-1 at home and drew 0-0 away in the 1982-83 European Cup, and Trabzonspor, who eliminated Villa from the 1994-95 UEFA Cup on the away-goals rule despite a 2-2 aggregate score.

Fenerbahce's ManU and Chelsea encounters

Despite its overall losing record against English teams, Fenerbahce has pulled off several notable results in European competition.

One of its most memorable victories came during the 1996-97 Champions League group stage, when Elvir Bolic scored the only goal in a 1-0 away win over Manchester United.

The result ended United's 40-year unbeaten home record in European competitions.

Fenerbahce repeated its success against Manchester United in the 2004-05 Champions League, winning 3-0 in Istanbul through a hat-trick from Tuncay Sanli after losing the earlier away fixture 6-2.

Another significant encounter came during the 2007-08 Champions League campaign under Brazilian coach Arthur Zico, when Fenerbahce reached the quarterfinals after eliminating Sevilla in a penalty shootout.

The Turkish club then faced Chelsea, winning the first leg 2-1 in Istanbul before a 2-0 defeat in London brought its campaign to an end.

Fenerbahce now heads into its latest English encounter looking to improve its historical record and overturn Aston Villa's unbeaten run in their head-to-head meetings.
