Fenerbahce coach Ismail Kartal is considering deploying Mason Greenwood as a No. 10 against Roma as the Istanbul club prepares for its first Champions League match in 18 years on September 10 in Kadikoy, Istanbul.
Spanish referee Jesus Gil Manzano will officiate Fenerbahce's Champions League match against Roma.
Fenerbahce is looking to bounce back from their derby defeat to Besiktas by beating the Italian side at home, while Kartal has called on his players to put in an aggressive and committed performance.
Ahead of the Roma game, Kartal reportedly told his squad that the Champions League fixture could provide an important opportunity to get the team back on track.
He wants Fenerbahce to play with the same courage they showed in their tie against Lyon and stressed that playing at home should allow the team to bring out its identity.
"We will be playing at home. We have to reflect our team identity on the pitch. Let us show that we are a good team. I want a team that fights, helps each other, and battles until the end," Kartal was quoted as telling his players.
Kartal and his coaching staff have also reportedly held individual talks with players to keep motivation levels high, while particular attention has been drawn to avoiding simple passing mistakes.
Fenerbahce are also working through uncertainty in midfield, with Matteo Guendouzi unavailable because of suspension and Marco Asensio not yet considered fully fit.
Kartal is expected to start N'Golo Kante alongside Ismail Yuksek, while Greenwood is being considered for the No. 10 role, the attacking midfield position directly behind the striker.
If the English forward starts centrally, Dorgeles Nene is expected to come into the starting lineup on the right wing.
Meanwhile, Kartal could also make a change at right-back, with Türkiye international Mert Muldur reportedly under consideration to start in place of Nelson Semedo, according to Milliyet.
