The match, played at Fenerbahce’s home ground, saw the teams go into halftime with a 0-0 scoreline. Fenerbahce dominated much of the play, but their efforts were thwarted by a resilient Lille defense.
In the second half, Fenerbahce finally broke the deadlock when Lille’s Diakité scored an own goal in the 90+1 minute. The goal put Fenerbahce ahead 1-0 and seemed to set the stage for a potential turnaround. The aggregate score was tied 2-2, leading the match into extra time.
During the first 15 minutes of extra time, Fenerbahce maintained their 1-0 lead. However, in the 109th minute, Lille's Mandi was shown a direct red card for a foul on İrfan Can Kahveci, leaving Lille with ten men.
In a dramatic twist, Lille equalized in the 118th minute with a penalty goal from Jonathan David, which shifted the aggregate score to 3-2 in Lille’s favor. The match concluded at 1-1, confirming Fenerbahce’s elimination from the Champions League.
With this result, Fenerbahce will continue their European journey in the UEFA Europa League.
