FIFA imposed a three-transfer-window registration ban on Istanbul side Fenerbahce, according to information published on the world football governing body's official website on Friday.
The three-window ban means the club is expected to remain barred from registering new players until the end of the 2027-28 winter transfer window.
The specific case behind the punishment and the amount Fenerbahce may be required to pay remain unclear.
The Istanbul club has not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
The sanctions can stem from different disciplinary or regulatory matters. FIFA's registration-ban system includes cases involving financial disputes and other regulatory breaches.
At the same time, FIFA has also imposed bans on clubs that failed to comply with previous decisions ordering them to pay overdue amounts.
For a club facing a ban across several registration periods, the immediate consequence is that it cannot add newly signed players to its registered squad during those windows. The club can still operate its existing squad, but any incoming player affected by the registration rules cannot be registered until the ban has been served or lifted.
Other Turkish clubs have also faced similar restrictions recently, particularly over unpaid financial obligations. In September 2026, 1. Lig clubs Kayserispor, Sivasspor and Sariyer, along with 2. Lig side Serik Belediyespor, received three-registration-period bans from FIFA.
The FIFA sanction came after UEFA put a €7 million ($8.2 million) fine on Fenerbahce in July for exceeding its squad cost limit for the 2025 financial year.
UEFA's Club Financial Control Body found that Fenerbahce's squad costs reached 84% of its football-related revenue, above the 70% maximum allowed under the governing body's financial sustainability regulations.
Fenerbahce confirmed later the same day that it would appeal the UEFA sanction.
According to the club's latest financial report, Fenerbahce generated ₺9.7 billion ($208.7 million) in football-related revenue over the period, while the club committed €124 million ($141.4 million) in total transfer fees for new signings across the two transfer windows
