FIFA will present bespoke championship rings to the winners of Sunday's World Cup final, marking the first time the accolade has featured in the tournament's 96-year history.

Argentina and Spain meet at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Sunday, with the winning team set to receive the rings in addition to the traditional trophy and gold medals.

FIFA said the addition brings "one of the most recognizable American sporting traditions to the global game." Championship rings have long featured in North American sport, with the Major League Baseball World Series ring, the National Football League Super Bowl ring, the National Basketball Association championship ring, and the National Hockey League Stanley Cup ring among the most recognized examples.

A limited edition of 2,026 individually numbered rings will be produced. Of these, 30 will go to the victorious team, while the remaining 1,996 will be made available for fans to purchase.

According to FIFA, one side of the ring will display the World Cup trophy, while the other will be customized to reflect the identity of the winning team.

Each ring will be individually numbered, custom-fitted and delivered with a certificate of authenticity.

Immediately after the final, the winning captain and head coach will receive temporary rings. The 30 rings reserved for the squad will then be customized before being formally presented to the players at a later date.

The 1,996 rings not reserved for the winning team will be sold to fans worldwide as an Official Licensed Product, according to FIFA, allowing supporters to own a numbered piece linked to the tournament.

Sunday's match will be preceded by a closing ceremony featuring Post Malone and Tom Cruise, and a halftime show including Justin Bieber, Madonna and Shakira.

Argentina, the defending champions, reached the final by beating England in the semifinals on Wednesday. Spain, chasing a second title after 2010, advanced past France.

Lionel Messi is set to become the first player to start three World Cup finals and could extend his record of 21 career World Cup goals; France's Kylian Mbappe trails by one.

Messi and Mbappe are also tied for the 2026 Golden Boot with eight goals each, ahead of France's Ousmane Dembele and Spain's Mikel Oyarzabal, who have five apiece.

U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to attend Sunday's final and present the trophy, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed Thursday.

England and France meet Saturday in the third-place playoff.
