Galatasaray officially announced the departure of Argentine striker Mauro Icardi, ending his four-season spell with the Istanbul club.

The club shared a farewell message for Icardi on its official X account, highlighting his goals, records, trophies and lasting place in Galatasaray history.

“Dear Mauro, today we are not talking about separation, but about legacy,” the club said.

Galatasaray praises Icardi’s legacy

Galatasaray said Icardi’s departure would not change his place in the hearts of supporters of all ages.

“The fact that you no longer wear the Galatasaray jersey will not change your place in our hearts,” the statement said. “Because you have won a place in the heart of every Galatasaray supporter, from seven to 70.”

The club praised Icardi for his goals, scoring titles, records and trophies, as well as his connection with supporters.

“Beyond the goals you scored, the scoring titles you won, the records you broke and the trophies you lifted, you experienced the passion of Galatasaray and made millions experience it,” Galatasaray said.

Club calls Icardi an unforgettable legend

Galatasaray said Icardi had written his name into the club’s history and would remain among its unforgettable legends.

“You are now not only someone who wrote his name in golden letters in club history, but a value who will live forever among Galatasaray’s unforgettable legends,” the statement said.

The club also credited the former captain with inspiring a generation of young supporters.

“Dear captain who made a generation support Galatasaray, if children today are proud to say, ‘I am a Galatasaray supporter,’ you have a major share in that,” the club said.

“All Galatasaray supporters know: Such a love is never forgotten.”

Icardi recorded 77 goals and 25 assists

Icardi spent four seasons with Galatasaray and won four Super Lig titles, the Türkiye Cup and the Türkiye Super Cup.
