Galatasaray confirmed Wednesday that star striker Victor Osimhen has suffered a moderate muscle strain and bleeding in his left leg while on international duty with the Nigeria national team.
The club issued an official statement following an MRI scan conducted at its sponsor hospital, Acibadem, revealing the extent of the injury.
“In the MRI scans performed today at our sponsor hospital Acibadem, our football player Victor Osimhen was found to have a moderate strain (strain and bleeding) in the left posterior muscle, and his treatment has begun,” Galatasaray said.
Osimhen, 26, was injured during Nigeria’s World Cup African playoff final match against DR Congo. He was substituted at halftime after complaining of discomfort behind his leg. Although no official statement was made during the match, the forward appeared visibly distressed after being taken off.
Osimhen had previously suffered an ankle sprain in a national team match against Rwanda in September, causing him to miss three matches.
Without Osimhen—who had scored five goals in his previous two appearances for Nigeria—the Super Eagles struggled to generate clear chances in the second half of the match. He watched the penalty shootout from the sidelines and was reduced to tears following Nigeria’s defeat.
Osimhen joined Galatasaray from Italian club Napoli in a record-breaking €87 million ($95 million) transfer during this season’s summer window, making him the most expensive signing in Turkish football history. He has scored nine goals in 12 appearances so far this season.
The Nigerian international has also been shortlisted for the 2025 African Men’s Player of the Year award, alongside Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah.
