Galatasaray missed the chance to secure the Trendyol Super Lig title after losing 4-1 away to Samsunspor in Week 32.

The league leaders went into the match knowing a win would have sealed their fourth consecutive championship and 26th Super Lig title overall, regardless of results elsewhere.

Galatasaray fail to seal championship

Galatasaray entered the week at the top of the table with 74 points from 31 matches.

The yellow-red side had recorded 23 wins, 5 draws and 3 defeats before facing Samsunspor. They were 7 points ahead of closest rivals Fenerbahce and 9 points ahead of Trabzonspor with 3 weeks remaining.

However, the defeat in Samsun meant Galatasaray were unable to confirm the championship in this match.

Samsunspor, who started the week in seventh place with 45 points from 31 matches, defeated the league leaders 4-1 at home.

Samsunspor end Okan Buruk’s winning run

The result also ended Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk’s perfect record against Samsunspor in the Super Lig.

Before this match, Buruk had faced Samsunspor 6 times as Galatasaray coach and won all 6 matches.

Galatasaray had scored 14 goals and conceded 6 in those previous meetings.

The two teams also met in Istanbul in the first half of the season, when Galatasaray won 3-2.
