The Turkish Super Lig title race will go down to the final two weeks after leader Galatasaray suffered a 4-1 away defeat to Samsunspor, while Fenerbahce beat Basaksehir 3-1 to cut the gap at the top to four points.
Galatasaray stayed on 74 points after the loss in Samsun, while Fenerbahce moved up to 70. Trabzonspor, held to a 1-1 draw by Goztepe, reached 66 points but lost its mathematical chance of winning the championship.
Galatasaray went ahead in the ninth minute through Yunus Akgun, but Samsunspor responded through Mouandilmadji in the 22nd minute.
After the break, Samsunspor took control. Ndiaye made it 2-1 in the 57th minute before Galatasaray goalkeeper Gunay Guvenc was sent off in the 63rd minute for handling the ball outside the penalty area and denying a clear goal-scoring chance.
Mouandilmadji scored again in the 71st minute, and Ndiaye added Samsunspor’s fourth in the 82nd minute to seal a 4-1 win.
Fenerbahce took full advantage at home as Talisca scored all three goals in a 3-1 win over Basaksehir.
The Brazilian put Fenerbahce ahead in the 28th minute, before Amine Harit leveled for Basaksehir in the 36th. Talisca then struck again in the 57th and 72nd minutes to complete his hat-trick and keep Fenerbahce in the title race.
Trabzonspor’s hopes ended after a 1-1 home draw with Goztepe.
Goztepe led through Juan’s 32nd-minute goal, and Trabzonspor were reduced to 10 men after Mustafa Eskihellac received two yellow cards in quick succession before halftime.
Umut Nayir rescued a point for Trabzonspor in stoppage time, but the result was not enough to keep them in the championship race.
Galatasaray will face Antalyaspor at home before visiting Kasimpasa. Fenerbahce will play Konyaspor away and Eyupspor at home. Trabzonspor, now out of the title race, will visit Besiktas and Genclerbirligi.
