Giovanni Guidetti looks to add another major title to his long VakifBank career as the Turkish club enters the CEV Champions League Final Four in Istanbul.
The Italian head coach, now in his 18th year with the yellow-and-black team, has guided VakifBank to 31 of the 42 trophies in the club’s history. A new Champions League title would bring his personal tally at the club to 32.
The Final Four will be held at the Ulker Sports and Event Hall on May 2-3. VakifBank will compete against fellow Turkish side Eczacibasi Dynavit and Italian clubs A. Carraro Imoco and Savino Del Bene.
Since taking over in 2008, Guidetti has led VakifBank through one of the most successful periods in the club’s history. VakifBank has won 42 trophies overall, including domestic league, cup and super cup titles, as well as major European and world-level competitions.
Guidetti has been in charge for 31 of those titles, making him the defining figure behind the club’s modern success.
His impact is especially clear on the international stage, where VakifBank has won 10 of its 12 international trophies under his leadership.
Under Guidetti, VakifBank has lifted the CEV Champions League trophy six times and won the FIVB Club World Championship four times.
The CEV Champions League is Europe’s top club volleyball competition, while the FIVB Club World Championship brings together leading clubs from around the world.
Guidetti is also the head coach with the most titles in both competitions. VakifBank holds the record for the most championships in these tournaments, while Guidetti stands as the first head coach to reach that level of success.
Guidetti also worked with the Türkiye women’s national volleyball team between 2017 and 2022.
During his time with the national team, Türkiye finished third in the 2021 FIVB Nations League, second at the 2019 European Championship, third at the 2017 and 2021 European Championships, and fifth at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
As VakifBank returns to the Champions League Final Four, Guidetti will now aim to turn another Istanbul campaign into the 32nd trophy of his club career.
