Hamburg has reportedly made a loan offer with an option to buy for Fenerbahce striker Sidiki Cherif, whose transfer and performance have remained under discussion since his arrival during last season's mid-season transfer window.
Cherif, 19, joined Fenerbahce after the Istanbul club parted ways with Youssef En-Nesyri and Jhon Duran. The move left the young forward as Fenerbahce's only central striker during a title race, placing him under immediate pressure at one of Türkiye's biggest clubs.
According to the claim, Hamburg has put forward a project in which Cherif would receive regular playing time. The proposed deal is said to be a loan with an option to buy, a structure that allows the receiving club to sign the player permanently later if agreed conditions are met.
Talks are expected to become clearer in the coming days, while Cherif's future remains part of a wider debate around Fenerbahce's squad planning and transfer spending.
Fenerbahce head coach Ismail Kartal recently addressed the discussion around Cherif and said he considered the transfer fee paid for the player to be high.
"Cherif is being criticized; he is a young player. He is an open-space player with good athleticism. He was transferred for more than €20 million ($22.9 million). I think these are high figures. They can cause a blockage at clubs. Under the conditions at that moment, I suppose they thought they needed that player; I cannot know that part," Kartal said.
His remarks added another layer to the debate surrounding Cherif, who has been questioned both for his cost to the club and his effectiveness in front of goal.
