Jalen Brunson turned a brief exchange with Jaylen Brown at Donovan Mitchell and Coco Jones' wedding into the NBA's latest viral meme after appearing to stare down Brown from across the dance floor.
Mitchell, the Cleveland Cavaliers guard, married singer and actress Coco Jones during a private ceremony in Greenwich, Connecticut, on Saturday, Aug. 1. Brunson, Brown, Josh Hart, James Harden, Bam Adebayo, Russell Wilson and Ciara were among the prominent guests attending the celebration.
Brown shared footage from the wedding showing Brunson watching him from the dance floor with a mischievous grin. Brunson eventually looked away and called out to his New York Knicks teammate Josh Hart.
“Josh!” Brunson shouted as Brown filmed him from across the room.
The clip was quickly picked up by NBA-focused social media accounts, where fans turned Brunson's expression into a meme and connected the exchange to recent Eastern Conference playoff rivalries.
One reaction described the moment as the look of an opponent preparing for another playoff meeting, while others joked that Brunson had spent the evening surrounded by players whose teams the Knicks had recently defeated.
Brunson led the Knicks to the 2026 NBA championship and was named Finals MVP. During that playoff run, New York swept both Mitchell's Cavaliers and the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Knicks had also eliminated Brown's former team, the Boston Celtics, when the two teams met in the 2025 playoffs. Those results gave fans further material as they circulated the wedding footage and framed the staredown as an extension of the players' on-court rivalries.
Despite those recent matchups, the videos showed Brunson, Brown and other players spending time together away from competition.
A second widely shared clip showed Brown speaking with Mitchell and Adebayo during the celebration. Mitchell also invited the Cavaliers roster as he marked the occasion with teammates, friends and other leading figures from the sports and entertainment worlds.
Mitchell and Jones announced their engagement in July 2025 after two years of dating. They married after three years together, with the viral Brunson and Brown exchange becoming one of the most widely discussed moments from their wedding.
