Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho has been linked once again with a high-profile move in English football, according to reports in the Turkish media on Saturday.
Mourinho, currently at the helm of Fenerbahce, could become a candidate to replace Nottighan Forret's Nuno Espirito Santo at a Premier League club if the Turkish side faces elimination against Benfica.
Mourinho has remained Fenerbahce's head coach despite recurring speculation about his future. Last season, he led the team in a close title race with Galatasaray, witnessing the rivals claim the championship, yet resisted pressure to resign and started the new season in Istanbul.
According to reports, Premier League club owner Marinakis has been in conflict with manager Santo, who reportedly decided to resign following on-field disputes.
Mourinho has been identified as the leading candidate to take over, should Benfica knock Fenerbahce out of European competition.
Reports suggest that while speculation over Mourinho’s future has intensified, his relationship with Fenerbahce's board remains professional. If the club is eliminated by Benfica, the management would reportedly not block Mourinho from considering an offer abroad.
