Harry Kane said he felt “right at home” after signing a two-year contract extension at Bayern Munich, which keeps the Ballon d’Or winner at the club until 2029, the German champions announced Thursday.

The 33-year-old England captain joined Bayern from Tottenham in 2023 and has scored 156 goals in 161 games in all competitions. In a statement, Kane said he loves the club, its fans and the city of Munich, that his family is very happy there and that he was keen to stay.

He also praised manager Vincent Kompany. Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund said the club was “absolutely delighted” and called Kane “the best all-round striker in the world.”

Ballon d’Or and record-breaking form

Kane was voted the men’s player of the year at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in London last month. He became the first Englishman to win the award since Michael Owen in 2001 and the first Bayern player since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in 1981, finishing ahead of France captain Kylian Mbappe.

In September, Kane became the fastest player in German history to reach 100 Bundesliga goals, doing so in 98 games and beating Dieter Mueller’s 1977 record by 31 games. Last season, he scored 61 goals for Bayern and 12 for England, a total of 73 that has been bettered only once this century, by Lionel Messi’s 82 in 2011-12.

After more than 10 years at boyhood club Tottenham without a team trophy, Kane has won two Bundesliga titles and one German Cup at Bayern. The Champions League has proved elusive, with two semifinal exits in three campaigns.

No longer eyeing Premier League return

According to German media, Bayern and Kane had been negotiating since August, with the length of the deal the main sticking point. His longer-term future in Munich was never in real doubt, however.

In August, Kane told FourFourTwo magazine that his desire to return to the Premier League had waned. He said the “itch isn’t there as much anymore,” that Munich had opened his eyes to football outside England and that his family is settled there. He added that he never says never but is concentrating on Bayern for now.

Bayern won the league and cup double last season and took eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain to a 6-5 aggregate defeat in the Champions League semifinals. This season, the club is the only undefeated side in Europe’s top five leagues.

It leads the Bundesliga ahead of Dortmund on goal difference and is 13th in the Champions League table after four of eight league phase matches.
