Argentine football star Lionel Messi has named Türkiye international Can Uzun among 10 promising young footballers in the third installment of an Adidas video series highlighting players expected to make their mark on the sport.
Uzun, who plays for German club Eintracht Frankfurt, appeared first in the latest list released by Adidas, becoming the second Turkish international featured in the series after Juventus player Kenan Yildiz was selected in an earlier installment.
The recognition also brings together Uzun and the footballer he has long described as his childhood idol.
The third installment features 10 young players, including Tomas Aranda, Gilberto Mora, Max Dowman, Zavier Gozo, Jesus Rodriguez, Kees Smit, Chloe Sarwie, Giovanna Waksman and Lotta Wrede, alongside Uzun.
Messi had previously included Kenan Yildiz, who plays for Italian club Juventus, in an earlier installment of the Adidas series, bringing the number of Turkish internationals featured across the selections to two.
Uzun has previously spoken about his admiration for Messi, explaining in interviews that the Argentine footballer played an important role in shaping his early interest in the game.
"My biggest idol is Lionel Messi. I grew up watching his videos," Uzun said in an earlier interview.
His inclusion among Messi's selections now places him alongside other emerging players highlighted by the footballer he followed throughout his childhood.
