Former Lens defender Malang Sarr was allegedly assaulted in Marbella, Spain, during the summer following a dispute over a commission linked to his transfer to Saudi Arabian club NEOM Sports Club, according to French newspaper L'Equipe.
The Senegalese defender, who was also linked with Turkish club Fenerbahce during the summer transfer window, had recently signed a three-year contract with NEOM when the alleged incident took place in late July.
According to L'Équipe, the disagreement emerged after Sarr reportedly cut out an intermediary who had helped arrange his move to NEOM, completing the transfer negotiations himself.
A dispute over the commission then reportedly broke out with a group described as being connected to one of Sarr's former representatives.
The French report said Sarr was staying at the Elba Estepona Gran Hotel & Thalasso Spa in the Marbella area when the incident unfolded. He had been having dinner with two of his new NEOM teammates when men allegedly approached him over the financial dispute.
People linked to Sarr's former representative allegedly went to the hotel and physically assaulted the player over the unpaid commission, according to reports.
The incident was also said to have been captured by the hotel's security cameras.
Despite the alleged attack, Sarr reportedly decided not to file a complaint with police and sought to keep the incident from escalating further.
Sarr had joined NEOM on a three-year contract after leaving French side Lens.
