Marmaris is set to welcome cyclists, visitors, and residents on June 6–7 as the inaugural Visa Maximiles Black L’Etape Marmaris by Tour de France debuts with a competitive race, public ride, and festival expo.

The event, part of the official amateur series of the Tour de France, will take place on June 7 with around 700 cyclists at the start line. Participants include 120 international riders from 16 countries, while 70 of the total competitors are women.

Tour de France-style weekend opens to public

Although the main race is limited to registered cyclists, the weekend will also include activities open to local residents and visitors. Marmaris 19 Mayis Youth Square will host the expo area, bringing together cyclists, brands and sports fans throughout the event.

A public ride will be held on June 6, giving residents a chance to take part in the cycling atmosphere before the official race. Both the public ride and expo activities are open to people in Marmaris.

Riders will follow coastal roads and mountain routes

The race will start from central Marmaris and move through Hisaronu, Turgut, Bayirkoy, Selimiye and Osmaniye. The route will take cyclists along Mediterranean coastal roads, pine forests and the Bozburun Peninsula, combining natural scenery with areas shaped by the traces of ancient civilizations.

The longer route covers 96.7 kilometers and includes 1,949 meters of elevation gain. It also features sprint gates and King of the Mountain, or KOM, sections.

One of the most challenging sections lies between Selimiye and Osmaniye, where cyclists will climb for about 5 kilometers and gain roughly 300 meters in elevation. The section runs through the pine-covered roads of the Bozburun Peninsula and is expected to be one of the defining parts of the race.

Shorter route offers accessible challenge

The shorter course is 65.8 kilometers long and includes 1,015 meters of elevation gain. It is designed to offer a Tour de France-style experience over a more accessible distance, with climbs around Selimiye and faster downhill sections toward Marmaris.

Both routes place Marmaris at the center of a two-day cycling program that connects sport, tourism and the region’s coastal landscape.
