Galatasaray defeated Eyupspor 5-1 at home in the opening match of Week 22 in the Trendyol Super Lig on Feb. 13, with Mauro Icardi scoring a hat-trick and setting a new stadium record, while Victor Osimhen delivered 2 assists for the first time in his professional league career.

The win extended Galatasaray’s unbeaten league run and strengthened the team’s position in the title race.

Yunus Akgun opened the scoring in the second minute, marking Galatasaray’s earliest home goal of the season. The 25-year-old forward headed the ball into the net from a cross by Osimhen.

The goal marked Akgun’s eighth of the season across all competitions, including 5 in the league, 2 in the UEFA Champions League, and 1 in the Turkcell Super Cup.

Galatasaray will face Konyaspor away next week.

Captain Icardi breaks scoring record

Galatasaray captain Mauro Icardi scored 3 goals in the 33rd, 48th and 70th minutes to seal the victory and set multiple records.

The Argentine striker increased his Super Lig tally to 13 goals this season and raised his total to 15 across all competitions, including one goal each in the Turkcell Super Cup and Ziraat Türkiye Cup.

The performance marked his second hat-trick for Galatasaray after his previous 3-goal display against Kayserispor on April 14, 2023.

Icardi also became the highest-scoring player in the history of Ali Sami Yen Sports Complex RAMS Park.

He reached 47 goals at the stadium, surpassing Burak Yilmaz, who previously held the record with 44.

Other top scorers at the venue include:

  • Selcuk Inan with 39 goals
  • Bafetimbi Gomis with 33 goals
  • Wesley Sneijder with 30 goals
  • Victor Osimhen with 26 goals

At age 33, Icardi also became the second-oldest foreign player to score a hat-trick for Galatasaray in Super Lig history.

Club legend Gheorghe Hagi remains the oldest after scoring three goals against Bursaspor in 1999 at age 34.

Speaking after the match, Icardi said, “For a striker, you aim to break records. I am very happy about my new record. I achieved this in four years. I am proud to score goals. I am very happy that these stories are becoming part of Galatasaray’s history.”

He added that the support from fans motivates the team and said he was “incredibly happy” with both his personal performance and the team’s progress.

Osimhen assists twice, Cakir makes key saves

Victor Osimhen played a decisive role in the win by assisting Yunus Akgun’s opening goal and Icardi’s second strike.

It marked the Nigerian forward’s first time recording two assists in a league match in his professional career.

Osimhen also scored during the match, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

Galatasaray and national team goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir made several crucial saves that helped preserve the team’s early lead.

He denied Umut Bozok in a one-on-one chance in the seventh minute and stopped a header from Jerome Onguene in the 25th minute.

His performance helped maintain Galatasaray’s advantage during key moments of the match.

Galatasaray continued its strong league form with this victory. Since a 1-0 away defeat to Kocaelispor in Week 12, the team has recorded 8 wins and 2 draws in 10 matches.
